Description Description
Enjoy historic charm, majestic trees, and peaceful comfort at Moonshine Hideaway! Located just minutes from popular Chimney Rock State Park and Lake Lure, this treehouse of a home was originally built in 1925 by notorious local bootlegger, Red Anderson. The original, unique features of the home remain, but you can rest easy with modern amenities and comforts, gas-burning fireplaces on both levels, air conditioning for warm summer days, smart TVs in common areas and the primary bedroom, and reliable high-speed internet. Ground-wired high-speed internet access (not inconsistent satellite, as is often the norm in this area) means you can reliably work and stream TV or movies throughout your visit. This inviting home has vintage character true to its era, original windows, and a clawfoot bathtub. There are three different outdoor areas to relax and listen to the rushing water of the river below, including a covered balcony off the upstairs common area where you can sit back and daydream. The covered porch off the kitchen provides wooded privacy for outdoor meals and cool mountain breezes through the gorge. You could spend the evening with family and friends roasting marshmallows over the fire pit at the riverside sitting area at the bottom of the driveway or enjoy some friendly competition with a variety of games to play in the upstairs card room. Your mountain vacation begins at Moonshine Hideaway!

The house had lots of character.
The house had lots of character. I enjoyed grilling and looking down at the river. It was also nice watching the lizards sun themselves around the back deck.

I have had my eye on this house for a few years & was excited to have the opportunity to book it.
I have had my eye on this house for a few years & was excited to have the opportunity to book it. I knew that the Bat Cave area was magical. The house had all the charm and character that I was hoping for, along with having this great relaxing vibe. We visited with our adult kids & the setup was great for cooking, eating on the lower porch, morning chats on the upper porch, and reading books in the rocking chair. The bed was super-comfy & with a ceiling fan & mountain air, we slept great! The claw-foot tub added an extra dash of nostalgia. The house is up high on a hill with a view of trees & mountains. One night we drove to the bottom of the hill & enjoyed the firepit area on a lovely fast-running stream. If you appreciate older cottage-style homes, you will love this hideaway. We hope we can go back!

Interesting
We encountered a mild thunderstorm on the first night, lost power for 5 hours, the tv and wifi didn't turn work for the rest of the week. The Fire alarms went off 4 of the 6 nights at random times from midnight to 4:00am with no explanation of why. The driveway was steeper than expected. Passport helped book an amazing rafting adventure and the beautiful Biltmore tour. We loved the area but wish the house was closer (within safe walking distance) to the river. We had a great time disconnecting and being one with nature. The house was nice and we enjoyed discussing what the original layout may have looked like. I would book the house again, but my husband experienced too many mysterious occurrences and would not.

The house was beautiful and the location was peaceful.
We loved our stay! The house was beautiful and the location was peaceful. We loved the uniqueness of the house and spent a lot of time trying to decide how it must have looked when it was first built. Everything we needed was provided (and then some). We really enjoyed having some relaxing time on the porch when a storm passed through - very relaxing. The location was also perfect for our plans - a quick drive to Lake Lure and Black Mountain. We plan on coming back again!

A place with beautiful drives.
We had a great experience renting this home. It was spacious, quiet, clean, comfortable, and well-stocked. The driveway is best suited for four-wheel drive. All communications were terrific and we took advantage of the “passport” using a free ticket to Timber Axe Throwing! This home is convenient to surround towns with beautiful drives.

Perfect Mountain Retreat
Very comfortable home and an enjoyable, relaxing stay in the mountains. Conveniently located to Chimney Rock and Lake Lure but still surrounded by the quiet, natural beauty of the woods. Highly recommend and will return again soon.
