Peaceful European-Style Retreat
We are so thankful that we were able to stay at this most exquisite property in Black Mountain, NC. The Apeldoorn House is amazing and a treasure to find! The creative thought and green approach brought to this European style home makes it a peaceful classy retreat. Anyone looking to relax and enjoy the calm that this home brings will be delighted. The touches of excellence are throughout the home and the property. Just a walk down to the stream and you instantly hear the many sounds of nature. The landscaping is natural, yet quite planned and magnificent! The experiences that we were able to share at the Apeldoorn House and in Black Mountain and Asheville were beyond wonderful and we truly hope to return again soon.

This Cottage is Magical
The best description of this cottage is magical. Just a short ride from Black Mountain, NC, I turn into the location and feel like I have come to an enchanted country cottage in France. The house itself is so charming and so comfortable, every detail contributes to the magical quality. The surrounding yard, depending upon the time of year, can be filled with irises, wildflowers, or the glowing colors of trees in the fall. And beyond the yard is a view of the Appalachian Mountains. Nearby Black Mountain is a great location for shopping and dining. And, of course, Asheville is only 15 miles away and Asheville is full of fun and excitement. I highly recommend Apeldorn House.

Inspires Appreciation for Nature & Beauty
Apeldoorn House is a very special place that inspires appreciation for nature and beauty. From the very first glance, we were inspired and thrilled to discover many more delights. The architectural details are fascinating. It's functional aesthetics and simplicity instill a deep sense of comfort and peace of mind. We thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our stay and highly recommend this soothing home for anyone who desires a special retreat from the external noise of the world. You've found your nurturing oasis.

Stayed Over Christmas
Our stay over Christmas was quite an experience. From inside where each room had Old World charm with curaited antiques and attention to details that made us feel as if we were in Ireland. The fireplace finished that European feel. Then, drinking our coffee outside each cold morning covered up in the awesome blankets for guests to use while listening to the water flow down the stone lined creek was perfection. The back yard offers several places to sit while taking in the mountain views and the creek. It is just a 5 minute drive to the shops and restaurants in Black Mountain and a 20 minute drive to Asheville. It was the perfect getaway!

Wild Animals Almost Every Morning
What a perfect vacation spot! The house is amazing and the view is spectacular. We enjoyed staying at the house and breathing in the serene beauty of the property. The wild turkeys and bear visited us almost every morning and evening. The house is close to town and Asheville for convenient shopping. We loved the Sandy Bottom stable. They even let us mine garnets in the old Tiffany mine. Pictures of the house do not capture the full beauty of the place. You will definitely be impressed if you choose to book a few nights here.

Fun Fact - The House is Made of Hempcrete
I can't say enough good things about this Airbnb! The location is so perfect. Close to town but far enough away to feel like you're in your own little paradise. The house itself is so stunning. The grounds are so quaint with a stream running below. I would 100% come back and stay here. Also, fun fact, the house is made of hempcrete. They have a bunch of information inside. Thank you!

Apeldoorn is a Slice of Heaven
We had such a lovely stay here at Apeldoorn, on Black Mountain. We spent most of our time hiking but chose to extend our visit so that we could spend some additional time enjoying this space. I can't think of more peaceful or beautiful surroundings, from the home itself to the stream that runs through, to the gardens and the mountains that surround the property. Apeldoorn is a slice of heaven, within heaven, on Black Mountain. And to think that we nearly booked a properly nearer to Asheville! Don't hesitate to visit and stay awhile.

My Favorite Rental
This was our second stay here and we can’t wait to return. No words can describe how incredible the home is. The sounds of the stream and nature really have a calming effect. Very clean, much attention to detail, and very comfortable. My favorite rental.

Stunning Inside and Out
The property was stunning inside and out. Very tastefully decorated and the landscaping was beautiful. Everything was well stocked (bathroom, kitchen) and seemed new and very clean. Convenient to Asheville (25 mins) and many hiking trails in Montreat (15 mins)

Felt Like Europe
Gorgeous place!! Felt like we were in Europe by the looks of the house. Christy and her team were very helpful and kind, and responsive to any questions or needs we had. There are black bears around this area, but they weren’t a problem for us, we followed Christy’s instructions and felt safe.

Like a Home From Southern France
This is truly the most beautiful home I’ve stayed at in the mountains. We were in awe from the moment we drove up to entering the beautiful home. Reminds me of the countryside in south of France or Italian villas in movies. Every corner is so thoughtfully curated. Cleanliness and functionality were above my expectations. We had some surprise guests we watched while having wine on the patio and breakfast: Bear cubs and their mom, wild turkeys, deer, hummingbirds, and dragonflies. The interior decor and thoughtful layout naturally brought our family joy that we barely wanted to leave the property. Would recommend 10/10!

Cleanest Airbnb in 12 Years of Renting
Such a gorgeous home and grounds- we wish we could’ve stayed here longer. This was maybe the cleanest Airbnb I’ve stayed at in 12 years of renting- pristine! 30 mins outside Asheville - super peaceful area. Christy was so kind in communicating. Just stay here!

Reminded Us of the European Countryside
Such a lovely home and stay! The home and surrounding garden are beautiful and tranquil. It had all we needed for a cozy and peaceful stay. The decor was amazing and it reminded us of our travels to the European countryside. The home is a short drive to Black Mountain and near Asheville which is convenient. Washer and dryer were a plus and Christy was a great host providing all the info we needed. We hope to visit again!

Wish I could Live Here Permanently
I stayed here for just two overnights as a little vacation from my own home in Black Mountain. It was incredibly peaceful and quiet. And the house blew me away. All the gorgeous touches and beautiful antiques. If I designed a house, I’d want to design one like this. Wish I could live there permanently.

Blue Ridge Mountain Getaway
What an amazing spot just outside of black mountain! We felt miles away from it all when in reality we were only about 8 minutes from town. We enjoyed dinner in black mountain one night but mostly cooked at home in the well stocked kitchen. The home is really pretty and so unique. The yard is a lovely sloped, shaded and verdant respite that immediately takes away all your stress and makes you so happy to be in the mountains! Would definitely recommend this spot for anyone looking for a peaceful getaway in the middle of the blue ridge!

Adore This Home
This is our second stay. We sincerely adore this house. We know Asheville and Black Mountain very well —- we have been coming for ten years. This is now our favorite spot. The grounds are absolutely gorgeous, the house is beautiful and also comfortable. You will be six minutes from the center of Black Mountain and less than 25 from Asheville. If we could purchase a house now, this would be the house. Don’t hesitate. It’s fantastic.

Well Designed Custom Home!
What a gem this place is and for many reasons! I actually design custom homes for a living. This is one of the few places I stayed where I was absolutely blown away by so many features and details. From the property to the structure to the scale of the interior spaces and furnishings....BRAVO to whomever pulled this all together! For those looking to book, don't hesitate! The home itself is not only cozy and well appointed, the property has several seating areas placed throughout the landscape which affords you a unique experience from various vantage points. My friend and I spent most of our time on the rear porch taking in the landscape and wildlife (lots of butterflies and hummingbirds). We did ziplining, white water rafting, attended the Sourwood Festival downtown, made a trek up to Craggy Garden Trail to catch a sunset and visited Burntshirt Vineyards in Chimney Rock. This airbnb had us within 40-45 minutes of these outings and the drives were easy.

Peaceful Mountain Getaway
This home was clearly thoughtfully curated with the cutest artifacts and it was tucked away into the woods which left for absolute peace. We loved how serene it was to wake up each morning to the sounds of birds and bees! The owners and property manager were super responsive and tended to any of our needs during our stay! I will acknowledge, while we didn’t see any bears in the backyard, which I was a bit bummed about!, we did see a lot of hornets & bees nests. The owners did respond and work to treat it very quickly! We brought our one year son and while we did pack a lot of his own gear, the home provided a pack and play and high chair which is super convenient for anyone traveling with kids! This really felt like a peaceful getaway in the mountains and was such a retreat to come back to each day after exploring Asheville, hikes, and Black Mountain. Thanks for hosting us!

One of Our Favorite Places
Apeldoorn House is one of our favorite places to visit. The house and the grounds are beautiful - in such a peaceful setting with incredible mountain views. We enjoyed sitting out back listening to the creek and the birds. The entire home is beautiful, with the kitchen and bathrooms especially so, and well-stocked with everything we could have needed. It’s just a few minutes from town, which has some great restaurants and shops. We were happy to see the ongoing recovery efforts around town from the devastating effects of hurricane Helene and businesses getting back on their feet.
