Where to Watch Fireworks on 4th of July in Asheville

Fourth of July in Asheville, North Carolina

The Fourth of July is quickly approaching, and we're getting more and more excited with each passing day! Asheville celebrates in a really big way, and to help you plan for the fun, we've put a spotlight on a few of our favorite events scheduled for this year's holiday!

History of July 4th

The Fourth of July is a great time for families to come together and celebrate the independence of our amazing nation, the United States of America. A tradition since 1776, July 4th was quoted by one of our founding fathers himself, John Adams, as a "day that will be celebrated, by succeeding generations, as the great anniversary festival. The celebrations should include pomp and parade, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations from one end of this continent to the other." The tradition of patriotic celebration became more widespread after the War of 1812, when the United States again faced Great Britain on U.S. soil, in which we defeated them a second time. 58 years later in 1870, July 4th was finally recognized as a federal holiday. Since July 4th falls in the middle of summer, it is a large focus for families to come together and be involved with BBQs, activities, and to end the nightly celebration with fireworks! Listed below are a few of our favorite July 4th celebrations that we want you to be a part of this Independence Day!

Downtown Asheville Celebration
Beginning at 2:00 PM in Downtown Asheville at Pack Square Park, the Ingles Independence Day Celebration returns for another year of family-friendly fun! Bring the kids to this super fun event - bouncy houses, Splashville Fountain, and other activities will keep them engaged, while the live music and local, craft food and drinks will entertain the adults. Fireworks begin around 9:30 PM, so bring a chair or a blanket and settle in for a great show!

Black Mountain Fireworks Hike
The Black Mountain Fireworks Hike is the perfect combination of two of our favorite summer things: firework displays and summit hikes! Put on by the Swannanoa Valley Museum, this event begins at 6:00 PM. The museum brings the chairs up to the mountains while you enjoy a moderate 45-minute hike to the top. Once at the peak, an old-fashioned watermelon cutting commences! To register, call (828) 669-9566.

South Asheville Fireworks
The fireworks show at Lake Julian is beloved by locals and visitors alike! Beginning at dark on the 4th, this event always promises a good time. Be sure to come early, as it is quite popular - the best spots along the lake fill up quickly. We love spending the entire afternoon at the park, enjoying the grills, volleyball court, horseshoe pits, and more!
